Original HabitSoutheast Asian and Oceanic lowlands to highlands. They grow on the trees. Vandas are the national flowers of Singapore.

DerivationThe name came from the  Sanskrit word vandara, meaning “trapping” or ”sticky.”

Since Vandas grow on tree branches naturally, some grow as long as 2 meters. Local people describe how Vandras stick on trees.

HistoryYou can see Vandas strangling  big trees that are as old as 100 years old, if you visit Vandas’ original habit. You would describe it “strangling” because 2 meters long, and its roots are as long as 1 meter exposed above the ground.
