【Derivation】The name came from two the  Greek words phalaina ( meaning ”looking like a moth” ) and opsis (meaning “appearance” ). Therefore, it means visually looking like a moth. The shape of the flower looks like a local moth.

【History】 I have been on a trip to the habitat where Phalaenopsis are originally  from. What surprised me most was the fact that the original flower is very small. For decades, since the early 20^th century, humans have kept producing new varieties of this tiny flower, and it has become the size now.
